IQPLUS has been providing Toyota with design solutions and animated videos. In the case below can you see one of the projects, which consisted in animated explainer videos of Toyota’s hybrid technology and their impact before the launch of the winter season.

About the client

Toyota is a Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer. Toyota Motor Corporation (TM) is the world’s largest automaker by volume. Toyota manufactures and sells vehicles and spare parts globally. Most popular car model is Toyota Prius and most popular SUV is RAV4. Currently, the company operates its business worldwide with 53 overseas manufacturing companies in 28 countries and regions. We worked with the Nordics division.

The challenge

Toyota Norway was looking to explain how their hybrid technology works before the winter season started. The focus were 3 main characteristics to explore:

  • why Toyota hybrids start easy in winter
  • why Toyota hybrids quickly warm up in winter
  • why Toyota hybrids have good grip / traction when starting on slippery roads

The project started as a challenge due to the short delivery time requested, so we had to work around the clock to meet the deadline. We partnered with The&Partnership for this project.

The solution

We used very aggressive design sprints to be more productive and build the videos faster. The starting point was the idea and general conception of the 3 characteristics. Our first action was figuring out how to best explain/show what the client had in mind and what car elements to include. Sketching is the next step, portraying our thoughts into paper so it is easier to visualise them and be more concrete.

Now it’s time for some design tools. Taking the sketches to a more detailed design begins to show how the esthetics of the final video will look like. Once we are in line with this, we move to animate the different interactions that take place.

More engaging. Highlight the call-to-action. People are more inclined to watch a short video rather than read a long body of text. Allows you to convey information in the way you want it to be delivered using different communication styles (style, movement, special effects, closed captions, among others)

The result

We delivered 3 explainer videos to show the 3 principal characteristics of the hybrid cars. Each one is concrete, to the point and show in a clear way what Toyota wanted to explain.
